The Sodus Chamber of Commerce is moving forward with the $200,000 Main Street Grant process. The Advisory Committee, made up of David Englert and Don O’Neil from the Village Planning Board, Darrell Vasseur and John Hopkins from the Chamber, Mary Jane Mumby, Chamber President and Kelley Allen, Village Mayor, have selected Stuart Brown Associates as the Local Program Administrator for the project. It was decided that the Chamber members on the Advisory Board would be selected to authorize the disbursements of funds. Two signatures will be needed, after the Administrator signs off, on completed projects before any funds can be disbursed. Property owners within the designated area will be responsible for paying for all agreed repairs (as determined with the administrator) and then will be reimbursed by the Chamber up to 75% through the grant money.

Mary Jane Mumby has been appointed by the Chamber Board of Directors as the Chief Financial Officer for this project and a non interest bearing checking account will be set up with her, and Jim Hopkins as alternate, for signing the disbursement checks.

Kelley Allen is compiling a list of area contractors that will be given to property owners. Each property owner should get at least three (3) bids and the lowest bid will be used and forwarded to New York State Office of Historic Preservation (SHPO) for approval. The Chamber will be contacting, via letter and a public meeting, with the property owners and interested contractors as to what will be allowed in the renovations. Zoning Officer Al Hendriske will have to issue a Certificate of Compliance upon completion of each project; cost of C of C will be the responsibility of the property owner, and then grant funds may be disbursed.

More information on the grant process may be found at the New York Main Street (NYMS) program web site: http://www.nysdhcr.gov/index.htm

The Chamber will be keeping the public informed as the process moves ahead. Any questions or comments may be sent via email to [email protected] or mailed to Sodus Chamber of Commerce, PO Box 187, Sodus, NY 14551.
