Sodus Chamber Events:
The remainder of 2011 will see some varied and interesting programs presented by the Sodus Chamber of Commerce. The meetings are designed to provide information concerning Member businesses and organizations and the public is encouraged to attend any or all meetings.
The August 4th meeting at Camp DeMolay is a Business After Hours get together for the General Public, Area Chambers of Commerce, Businesses, Organizations, and other Civic Groups. Everyone attending should make sure to bring your business cards and other information to share. Starting at 6:00 pm, you can spend a relaxing summer evening (rain or shine) overlooking beautiful Lake Ontario. The menu will feature pulled pork sandwiches, salads, desserts and beverages for $8.00 per person and all proceeds will be going to our hosts, the Sodus Masonic Lodge. September 1, (Thursday), the Sodus Branch of Reliant Credit Union will open its north entrance at 6:00 pm for our “Five Minute Spot Light”. Participating members will bring us up to date on the latest and greatest happening with their businesses, upcoming sales, or accomplishments and our member organizations will provide information on their future events. Also, a status of the Main Street Grant will be given.
The Annual Harvest Fest is set for September 24 at Sodus Central School and will feature loads of family fun, arts and crafts, a chicken BBQ by the Sodus Rotary and lots of other food. There will also be several demonstrators such as the Wayne County Sheriff’s K-9 unit. The huge pumpkins will be on display from the growing contest, and any strange or unusual produce you may have can be displayed on the “Freaky Fruits” table. The Harvest Carving/Decorating contest was a big hit last year with many amazing entries from all ages. The Baking Contest entries will be raffled after the winner is announced from each of the different age categories. The afternoon will be capped off by the ever popular “Pumpkin Drop” from a 75ft crane. (Vendors applications may be found on the Chamber’s web site or by calling the chamber).
The Chamber will once again host a public “Meet and Greet the Candidates” on Sunday, October 9, at the Wallington Fire Hall on Ridge Road. All candidates, running for public office in local districts, as well as on the local level here in Sodus are invited to attend. This will allow the public to meet the candidates and learn more about them in an informal setting. Each candidate will be allowed a 5 minute speech time (there will be no formal question and answer segment). After all candidates have spoken, refreshments will be served so that the public and the candidates will have an opportunity to speak one and one.
Elections for Chamber officers will be held on Thursday, November 3, at 6:00 pm at Captain Jack’s in Sodus Point. Each recognized Chamber member may vote but the general public may still attend the meeting. Other topics for the evening will be suggestions for next year’s programs and events. The Annual Christmas party will be held in December with plans being announced in November.
